My second zero waste tip concerns oral hygiene once again. I had already written about bamboo toothbrushes and the ones with the replaceable head, now it’s time for the toothpaste!
Since long time I have wondered of how much unnecessary packaging there is around a toothpaste: the plastic tube, hard to recycle, and the box of laminated cardboard, both destined to end up in the waste bin. Not to mention the great problem of microplastics, often contained in the form of microgranules, which are killing our oceans!
Fortunately, one day I found the solution: Lamazuna’s solid toothpaste!
From the very moment I discovered this brand I have been attracted by its philosophy that matches my values, but once I bought the products, I really fell in love with it.
Lamazuna is a young brand based in France. Its goal is to reduce waste to protect the environment by offering simple alternatives to everyday products. Its solid cosmetics are accompanied by minimal packaging, in compostable cardboard, totally zero waste!
From last November I’ve been using peppermint and cinnamon toothpastes.
The first thought may go to the price, higher than what the supermarkets offer, but this solid one has the advantage of lasting much longer, at least twice as much as those in gel because a very little product is necessary to be effective.
It looks like a solid cube of 17 grams with a wooden stick that, once finished, can be thrown into the compost. Also the carton of the box is biodegradable, therefore compostable, since the printing is made of plant-based inks. It’s totally plastic free!
The use is very simple: just rub the wet brush gently with water on the cube, and then brush your teeth as you would do with a normal toothpaste.
To store it, just place it on a soap dish or in a small glass or jar. It is very handy to carry around during travels, especially on the plane because it’s not affected by the liquid restrictions.
One last – but not least – advantage is that this product can also be used during excursions in nature: since all the ingredients are of natural origin, its use doesn’t create any pollution!
100% natural, antibacterial, vegan and cruelty free.

I love the taste of cinnamon and therefore the latter is undoubtedly my favorite!
